Benchmarking overnight private hospitals requires more than national data. It requires the right dataset. HCP and PHDB capture different views of private hospital activity, and the difference can materially affect how contract performance is interpreted.

PHDB data can be useful for broad private hospital analysis, but it may not provide the cleanest benchmark for private health insurer negotiations. For day hospitals, HCP-aligned benchmarking can give a clearer view of insured-market pricing.
